Happy Birthday to You!

The past week has truly been a "birthday marathon". Yesterday was once again a special occasion around here...Jonathan Daniel turned 14 years old! It seems like yesterday that Jonny was just a little tike but now he is a young man that is maturing in body, mind, and spirit. He daily shows to us that he can take on enormous amounts of responsibility. He is always treating the younger ones with tender loving care and meeting their needs. Jonathan enjoys the outdoors whether it be playing football, hunting, riding horses, or animal care...his skills abound in many areas. His latest "hunting feat" was that of spearing a wild hog in the heart! The story goes, the guys weren't allowed to take guns out one day on an exploring expedition, so the brave determined hunters put a large knife at the end of a pole and set off down the trail. They encountered a family of wild hogs and irritated the mother long enough that she got mad and charged...the lunge that would cost her life! Jonathan was the hero of the day!

I thought it would be a special treat for Jonathan if we all left him comments on this post that included a Scripture verse to encourage him in his walk with the Lord this coming year. If you feel inclined to contribute, that would be great :)

Over the Hill?...Not Yet!

It's birthday time once again in our house! Dad is now 46, or as he puts it, half way to 92 :) Today was full! We started off with sleeping in...YAY (as much as little ones allow), then fueled up with a mound of pancakes, berries and whip cream. Some "down time" together was in order after that. Then, guys played basketball and we all just enjoyed each other's company. Nathan and Rebecca joined us in the afternoon for a glorious celebration time...steak dinner, homemade ice cream, more basketball, playing at the park, races and lots of laughter all around.

We went around the table at breakfast time in prayer, thanking God for our father/husband and asking the Lord to bless his life. We can't begin to deserve the gift given us...a man of character, loyalty, devotion to God, his family and others. One who puts the needs of others before his own and shows us by daily example what it means to sacrifice. His footsteps are daunting to follow but God is the Giver of grace and with it we hope to carry on the pattern of dedication our father has to the King of kings.

"I love you" doesn't seem enough Dad, but we do and thank you for everything you do for us :) Happy Birthday!!

The Birthday Girl :)

Yesterday (March 27) was a monumental day...Katherine turned 20! I guess one can't feel literally "older" in one day but it happens non the less, by gradual steps when unnoticed.

Words can't describe our love and gratitude to the precious sister/daughter God has given our family in the form of Katherine. She has blessed each of us in a unique way that surpasses anything we could ask or think. The one thing that comes to my mind when thinking of my sis would be that she has an incredible servant's heart. No matter what lies in our path, Katherine is the one to always put others before herself. She is a loving daughter, a special friend, a compassionate big sister and one who loves her God with all her heart, soul, mind and strength!

Let's bless Katherine in a special way on this post. Please consider leaving a comment that includes a special memory you have with Katherine and/or something you appreciate about her...Thanks!

Love you Kath...Happy Birthday!

Our week in Review...

The following events have taken place in the past 10 days! Each event has a set of pictures and a little write up...I'm still not good at being a consistent "blog poster" so it's always the "crash course" for our poor readers! Enjoy...

A week ago last Friday, we had a house filled with smiles, full tummies and physical activity! The Guenther family and some of the guys working over at the GLS office came over for dinner, testimonies, volleyball and a few even spent the night! The parents outdid us all by staying up until 4:30 a.m.! Mr. Guenther had us in stitches for hours with his stories (I learned that one thing I never want to do is go camping on my honeymoon!). We had never met many of the gentlemen that work for GLS, so were grateful that they made the long drive to spend the evening with us. We played more games of volleyball than I think has ever been accomplished around here before in one night! Each team had their chance to win so most folks were happy :) Can't wait till next time everyone!

Our precious friends the Mike Elliott family, spent their last Sunday at Cross and Crown Church a week ago. The Lord has called them back to California and though the day was showered with tears, it was a blessed time to say our goodbyes and present them with a picture from our church so that all the memories made can swell the heart upon glancing at the wall decoration. We already miss them but know that there must be a special ministry awaiting them in their sunny home state. A song that was sung had the title "I Saw Jesus in You" and that one line describes how we all feel about the Elliotts. They have blessed us in such a unique way...we pray the one day the Lord will again bring them back to minister with us.

Monday brought us a 24 hour period of delight in the form of the Zes ladies! We were saddened that Mr. Zes couldn't join in the mix of conversation, laughter and late night glee...you were sorely missed Mr. Zes! The time was short but extremely full! Thank you ladies for taking time to drive down to Floresville for a visit :) Your fellowship was refreshing to us all. I think our faces hurt and sides ached after watching hours of Tim Hawkin's comedy clips, wow! The lines keep ringing in my ears: "I have a deadly disease in my...", "Drive fast and take chances. Cut people off if you have to sweet pea", "innocent animals on coils, metal slides", etc...

Come back soon...no, we won't ever waste that much time all at once again :)

The Elliott's moving day! Two trucks to load, oodles of kids everywhere :) and lots of fun! God took what looked impossible and blessed the day with success! What a joy to see everyone working together accomplishing the daunting work. We will forever be grateful for the reinforcements that showed up in the afternoon to encourage our weary bodies and discouraged hearts! Thank you to everyone who displayed the love of Christ even in the midst of things that aren't fun to do...you guys are amazing!

Phantom of the Opera: I still pinch myself when thinking that I actually got to go to the beautiful Majestic Theatre and watch a breathtaking performance of opera! What a night. Dad took me to dinner downtown at a lovely restaurant and then met up with Katherine and Mom to see the show. The music is marvelous and the costumes exquisite! I had to suppress the urge to break out in song during the performance! That's the downside to memorizing musicals or operas...when you see them live you want to jump on stage :) Thank you Dad for a magical evening that won't soon be forgotten...just being with you made it precious!

Brandon and Anthony are now the proud owners of a new machine that takes up half of our family room! They got a great deal on a weight set that took hours upon hours to assemble. Justin really wanted to be of service and hacked away at whatever he could find with a wrench :) More than the guys are excited about this new "toy"...I love to be the recipient of stuff I don't have to pay for!

Talk about learning to be humble and laughing at your own mistakes...it can all be accomplished on ice skates! We hadn't gone ice skating in years but Josh Wheeler was having a birthday party and the activity of the hour was skating :) After the humiliation of going up to the counter to exchange various sizes of skates about half a dozen times, I was ready to hit the ice...no not literally because none of us fell! Anthony was our camera man being as he is still unable to don skates due to his healing leg. Brandon and Katherine did great! Natural born pros...I didn't do too shabby. Of course, I realized that I wasn't doing well when no one would ever skate beside me. There's usually one reason for that...being too slow! Tag wasn't all that fair either! Once "it", always "it" in this case :)

Thanks for the invite Josh...May God bless you this year as you invest in His kingdom. Happy Birthday!

Easter Sunday: We actually fit into our schedule the old traditions that we don't always get to all in one year ~ Coloring eggs, jelly bean trails that lead to baskets full of goodies, bird's nest cookies, egg hunt in the yard and a big brunch with the church family before worship service! It wouldn't have all taken place if not for everyone pulling together. Anthony and Jonathan hiding the eggs, Brandon doing the trails, Katherine cooking away, etc.

We had Victor and Bethany Maxson come and share their heart for missions in Africa with the church and the Turack family also visited with us. The service was a powerful testimony of God's amazing work throughout the Scriptures. We sang glorious Resurrection songs and partook of the Lord's table. What an awesome time of reflection on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and His love for us! It is such a privilege to serve a risen King!
