Best Friends for 27 Years!
"Love suffereth long, and is kind; love envieth not; love vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Love never fails...And now abideth faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love." ~Selections from 1 Corinthians 13~
The Lord has blessed our world with many different kinds of love to enjoy by both bestowing it's grace on others and by being the recipient as well. There is a unique and special love that comes through years of cultivating, self sacrificing, understanding and cherishing...the love we find in marriage. Such love doesn't always look like the fairy tales we read about or the the romance of a newly wed couple. The love my parents have for each other can only be had through years of pouring themselves into each other. It matters not that they are as different as night and day or that each has their own way of communication. Many think they know what love is, but can we truly know until we've walked hand in hand with a person for dozens of years? In spite of trials, temptations, overwhelming odds and pressure, my parents have prayed together, wept together, rejoiced and smiled. Theirs is a deep love that leaves me with a sense of awe. I am humbled to think of my own selfishness and how I am far from being the servant they are to each other. That's a true romance, without the gushy frill or excitement of "newness" but the steady stream of sacrifice that comes when you adore your best friend for a lifetime!
Happiest of Anniversaries to you Dad & Mom!!!
